Scrappy Smart

Scrappy was more than just a “pet”. He was Sean’s son. He was a very smart boy who saw himself as a person; a member of our family, and he was so. He was always there even Sean turned around. The world will not be the same without him, but his memory will continue with us as the “Good Boy” that he was.

Capone

Today we say goodbye to our amazing fur baby Capone. He was truly one in a million and brought more love, joy and happiness into our lives than words can express. Capone loved going everywhere with us.No matter the destination, he was happiest by outsides. At home he loves his little blankie caves and his MANY stuffed lambies. From his little barks to his nudges to rub his head he always made it clear he loved us! 15 amazing years he gave us of pure unconditional love. He was so much more than just a pet , he was our family, are best friend and our everything. We promise to keep all of your lambies and blankies safe just as you always kept us safe and loved! We love you, Capone, and you will be missed beyond words.Thank you for every moment, memory, kisses, snuggle and nudge you have given us over the years . Until we meet again my sweet boy. I love you

Lucy

Lucy’s first year on life was as a street dog in Tennessee she never needed anyone. She actually ran from anyone who got close to her. When we met her March 9, 2013, she wasn’t our first choice. We went to the animal shelter to meet another dog who ended up wanting to eat Charlie Brown. I promised Matt we’d get a young dog to grow up with Grant. Charlie was about 6 when we adopted him so we were looking for a companion for him. Matt said we’re here so let’s just pick up. There was “Mae” moving her head side-to-side behind the glass, putting on a show for us to pick her. We did. She wanted nothing to do with Charlie Brown and nothing to do with us but she was sweet. Charlie Brown had to win over his Lucy. It took weeks but eventually Lucy learned to play with Charlie. They became the best of friends. Me and Lucy…she was very difficult to love. She destroyed everything that stood in the way of her freedom….doors, windows, furniture, cages, leashes, fences. Just 2 years later cancer took Charlie way too early. I was early pregnant with Nolan and the thought of a new dog was too much. Lucy was an only dog for over two years. We had moved to a busy area in Brookhaven and Lucy was constantly pushing her way out the front door. When she escaped, there was no getting her back. People tried but the more you tried, the harder and faster she ran. Nolan was walking and I started the search for a non-shedding dog (Lucy’s hair is everywhere in our house) that could be a companion for Lucy. Finally, I found the perfect doodle for Lucy and our family. The moment Gracie walked in our house, Lucy instantly loved her and they took off playing. Lucy and Gracie were the best of friends. Lucy and I had continued a love/hate relationship. She caused me a lot of stress when I was in the thick of mommy stress. 5 years ago we moved to a quiet cul-de-sac in Dunwoody. Here, Lucy would live the remainder of her life. I can say these last 5 years were some of the best years of her life. We installed a DogWatch fence instead of a physical that allowed her to stay on the front porch to protect the house and to give her the sense of freedom that she always yearned for. She got to bark at Clark (the neighbor’s cat), play with her neighborhood friends, Hazel and Buddy, chase off all the squirrels, chipmunks, and deer. For the last 12-18 months she declined a lot. Her hearing, her sight, her bones, all started going. Gracie felt it more than any of us. She missed playing with her best friend. Then Tessie came along. I always say things happen for a reason. Tessie joined the family 9 months ago and Gracie, became active again. Every once in a while, Lucy would try to join in and Tessie, up until the end, would hope Lucy would join in. Lucy is now running free with Charlie Brown. Saying goodbye is never easy but it was harder seeing the boys grieve their beloved Lucy. The love/hate relationship I had with Lucy went away 5 years ago. She became my shadow when Nolan went off to school. Every room (laundry room, dining room, living room, basement, our bedroom) has a dog bed because Lucy had to be in the room I was in. I had to put a gate on the bottom of the stairs because about 6 months ago, we would attempt to go upstairs but between her pacing in the night waking me up or the slips on the stairs caused more stress. We had to put a pillow at the bottom of the stairs so she could be the closest to me. What I realized in the end is that we didn’t choose Lucy, she chose us. She chose us 13 years ago and she continued to choose us. Every escape, she came home. She chose us to snuggle with, to play with, to grow old with, to love us. She told us when it was time to say goodbye. Thank you, Lucy, aka Lucy-Goosie, aka Lucy-Lou, for allowing us to love you.
