Coffee (11.08.2010-12.13.2024)

On Friday evening, December 13, 2024, our precious Coffee curled up into our hearts forever. Our sweet and sassy Lady Coffee of the Kentucky Bluegrass graced us with fourteen years of smiles before making her journey across the rainbow bridge to reunite with her sister Cocoa in heaven.

Cocoa and Coffee rescued me on New Year’s Day 2011, in Paducah, KY. These two little brown and white balls of fur blossomed into two silly, spunky Springer Spaniels with Canine Good Citizen certifications. After hemangiosarcoma stole Cocoa from us in 2018, Coffee and I passed our test as a therapy dog team with Therapy Dogs International (TDI)so we could more widely spread gentle Cocoa’s legacy of kindness.

We shared so much joy, peanut butter, love, and life during our short time together–our days filled with fur baby activities like doggie camp, doggie dancing, doggie parkour, rally obedience, dogtor visits, snuggles, trips to the pet store, doggie spa days for new fur-dos and pawdicures, snuggles, long walks in the park, underwater treadmill therapy, doga, puppy play dates, therapy dog visits, 5Ks to help animal rescues, and more snuggles. Every day a new adventure with tales upon tails of stories and photos yet to share.

Fast forward to Fall 2024, when, thanks to the intercession of Saint Francis and expert veterinary teams from Mansfield Veterinary Hospital and NorthStar VETS – Robbinsville, Coffee and I reprised “one more” of some of our favorite activities:
• One more trip to Canine Camp Getaway, where she rallied with several joyful speedway romps
• One more Friends of Burlington County Animal ShelterPaw Prints 5K (for Burlington County Animal Shelter) and an agility course with friends in the woods at Smithville
• One more happy K9 InScentives smelly class showing off her talented sniffer
• One more Marty’s Place Senior Dog Sanctuary Howl-o-ween—glowing in her skeleton costume cleverly covering her recent surgical sutures
• One more night-time chase of the “big bird” in the sky
• One more walk, one more ride in your carriage, at “Sunday” park with Omi
• One more dinnertime “take-out” for Grandfather
• One more “so cute” morning nuzzle with mama
• One more beauty appointment to get bows in her hair at Golden Paws Pet Resort & Spa
• One more sweet lick of honey from my finger

Then, one more brave limo ride to NorthStar, where I kissed her gently on her nose. . . and where her little heart beat for the last time.
Oh, sweet Coffee, what we would not give for one more snuggle. . . one more dance. . . one more wag of your tail feathers. . . one more whispered secret. . . one more look into your beautiful amber brown eyes. . . one more moment with you.

Coffee is survived by her mama Darlene A. Dreyer, grandparents “Omi” and “Grandfather” Char Dreyer, Uncle Stephan Dreyer, Aunt Dorothy Dreyer, cousins Kirsten Alexandra Dreyer, and Zachary Dreyer, rescuer Christie Bell, and so many fur-ever friends.

In lieu of condolences, as we requested for her sister, please do something extra nice for your loved ones or a random act of kindness in Coffee’s honor. Spend “one more” moment with them. Throw the ball seven more times. Snuggle up on the couch together. Pull them along for a long walk. Go on a surprise adventure. Play “roly-poly” in the grass with them. Rescue them if they need rescuing. Pause to breathe and feel their heartbeat. Sing with them. Whisper a secret to them. Dance with them. Take lots of videos and pictures to capture your time together. Wake them up at 6 am at the top of your lungs with the song in your heart. You can tell us about it if you wish. Just live it.

Rest in Peace Lady Coffee of the Kentucky Bluegrass, TDI, CGC, TKI, ADP, PFS-O (11.08.2010-12.13.2024).
