Snickers
Snickers, previously known as Biscuit, came into my life 2 years ago at the age of 11. I wanted to adopt a senior dog from a shelter. My other dogs, with the exception of one, had lived to be between 16 and 18 years old, so I felt that I would have some quality time with her too. Snickers was a little nippy, a little timid, and did not like other dogs coming near the property. She was also very tough to walk, as she would pull and growl at the sight of another dog. As time passed, she became a loving, trusting, tender soul, who loved to lie on me as I caressed her neck and rubbed her back. She felt secure in a daily routine, and as long as she was touching me at night when she was sleeping, or standing by me in the kitchen when cooking, she was content and happy. She loved treats, and would try to figure out how to get the next one. She would play with two toys mostly, a small turtle, and a ball covered in fuzzy material with a face and tail. The routine was to play with them and toss them clear across the living room after she ate dinner. This past spring Snickers was almost gasping while breathing. I brought her to the vet to learn that she had a tumor in her chest cavity, attached to her heart. We opted to go to Cornell in Ithaca, NY for 15 days of radiation, but unfortunately they did not help. . The people at Cornell gave her special treatment because they thought she was so sweet. Snickers began to collect fluids in her chest cavity and abdomen and had to be tapped every 5-6 days. She was a champion through all the needles, anesthesia, etc., even after the same at Cornell. However, I think she knew this could not go on. On September 30, when she was particularly bloated with fluids, I decided it was time to say goodbye. It was a very hard decision, and I am still devastated that she is no longer with me and she has left a big hole in my heart. She was such a sweet, smart, loving little girl. Rest my baby, Mommy will one day join you over the Rainbow Bridge. XXX
