“Melo joined our family on 12/15/2019 and gave us 5 years, 9 months, and 4 unforgettable days filled with pure love, laughter, and goofiness. We think he was around 13 or 14, but he never stopped being a puppy at heart. He wasn’t the kind to curl up in our laps—but he was always up for a belly rub and his game of “pretend fetch.” We’d toss a toy, he’d go after it, then bolt back to us empty-mouthed, tail wagging, ready for the next throw. Classic Melo. The house is too quiet now. No more click-clack of his nails on the floor. No more snoring. No more sudden barks of protest when we dared to eat without sharing. I miss being greeted by him with his happy face and wagging tail whenever I came back home. I miss our walks—how I’d groan about waking up in the dark or the cold (or both), and how I’d give anything to do it again. I miss the feel of his fur—thicker on his back and soft on his belly. I miss flicking his stubby tail, resting my forehead on that perfect spot between his eyes and muzzle, and feeling his body snuggled close to mine at night. And the expressions, the smiles that made every day with him special. He was deeply loved—by me, his dad Ricardo, and his brothers Leo and Rafa. Even his cat sister Hayley, who left us last year, loved him in her own grumpy way (though she’d never admit it). Melo left us suddenly. I hope we gave him the life he deserved, because he gave us so much more than we could ever return. You were our joy, our comfort, our sweet, silly boy. You’ll live forever in our hearts.
