Woody
My darling Woody, Thirteen years ago, I found you on a shelter website in Alaska; a docile, timid, young kitty someone had found left out on the street. The vet estimated that you were anywhere from 2 to 4 years old. I went to visit you at your foster home; your little ears had been frostbitten, your beautiful blonde coat was matted, and you wanted nothing to do with a human after how they’d forsaken you. I wanted everything to do with you. The thirteen years I had you in my life were the greatest blessing I could ever ask for. Watching you grow from a timid Alaskan street cat to a sprightly, well-traveled, cuddly gentleman was a profound honor. You and Rex have traveled the country with me – Alaska, Texas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Maryland (plus all the states between those drives) – and have been there with me to celebrate my brightest days, and to cuddle with me on my darkest days. What a privilege it has been for me to be your mom and your friend. I will miss you crawling on me to sleep when I lie down, your “nose rocket” boops and sandpaper kisses, the side eye and sass you give when I’m eating ice cream, seeing you snuggled up with Rex on the bed, and your beautiful, affectionate soul. I hope the other side of the Rainbow Bridge serves as much ice cream, yogurt, and brie cheese as your fancy heart desires, my darling little Dairy Queen. I will love and hold you in my heart forever, Woodles. Thank you for everything. Until we meet again, my little lion man.
