Kobe
Kobe sadly passed away on April 15th at the age of 14 (or 72 in dog years). The Grant family had an unexpected blessing over 8 years ago when they had the opportunity to change the life of a dog in need. Over the 2015 holiday season they became aware of their friends, the Cheung family, looking to find a home for a very special dog whose owners were no longer able to take care of him. As Jillian was spreading the word about Kobe, whose name at the time was Alan, Coco, and Chocolate, she decided to do a meet and greet on January 2nd 2016 and brought Alan/Coco/Chocolate over to her parent’s home to spend a few hours. Instantly upon everyone meeting him, they knew they had to adopt him with his presence, vigor, and personality being the missing piece to their family. Coincidentally, during the time of the meet and greet, the Lakers were on playing. Kobe Bryant was in his last season and having one of the highest scoring games of his career, so Brittany suggested we renamed him Kobe and the rest is history! Over the years Kobe brought so much joy and personality with his unique brown eyes and brown fur to the extended Grant family and friends. With his spunky personality, love for any and every food, and demand to be pet – his presence was immense. Although Kobe loved everyone, he undoubtedly found an unbreakable bond with Cynthia and Peter, who he became inseparable with. Sadly over the past years with his older age came different ailments for Kobe including diabetes. Over the past few weekends, his spirt was very high and he was able to hang out with this extended family who loved him, which was a blessing because he unfortunately passed away shortly after on Monday, April 15th. That Monday, Peter came home to Kobe in the corner, shaking, and it was clear that his time has come, so Peter was able to bring him to his dog bed, console him, and say his goodbyes as Kobe’s soul moved on. It was without a doubt that Kobe waited for Peter to get home so they were able to say goodbye to one another. Kobe will continue to live on within memories and our hearts bringing their family peace in knowing – all dogs go to heaven.
