Copper

Today we woke up with a permanent hole in our hearts that can never be replaced except for the pure love Copper showed us. The dichotomy of what he gave us and the loss we feel without his physical presence is overwhelming. This part never gets easy but especially when you encounter the purest of souls who only wanted family and friends to be in his presence. 100 percent, pure love as Crystal Waters sings. Copper is and was the perfect example of living to serve with his whole heart. There wasn’t a mean bone in his body- just the connection that he wanted to love from every aspect of his being. That is the tremendous loss we feel. If you smiled when he was with you, then take that gift with you, bottle it up, and open it up on days that don’t feel so happy. He is an immediate elixir. His true purpose was to love unconditionally and he gave that, infinity. As you know I look for signs to help me understand it all, and immediately he brought two. Last night when Chris and I walked outside of the hospital when we said ‘see you again soon’, we looked up to see in the clouds, a dog almost identical to Copper. Ears and all. Then this morning, the kids were listening in Alexa and Nathan Evans Song ‘100 Miles’ randomly came on. I knew it was his message to let us know he was ok and that his heart is with ours. The tears haven’t stopped. When you read the lyrics, you will understand. Copper followed me everywhere I went: room to room, outside on the patio, everywhere. He was our support in every moment which is why this hurts more than you can imagine. Rest now my beautiful boy and run free like you used to do. ‘My heart is yours, your heart is mine’…. I don’t know, but I’ve been told True love waits forevermore Like first bloom in melting snow You’ll be waiting for me at home Remember back on the pact we made She said if we went separate ways And even if we’re both old and grey We’d find each other again someday So here’s to you, my love It’s written in the stars above My heart is yours, your heart is mine, my love I would walk a hundred miles To see the morning in your eyes My heart is yours, your heart is mine, my love And now the nights are getting cold So, darling, I am used to hope I don’t know, but I’ve been told True love waits forevermore So here’s to you, my love It’s written in the stars above My heart is yours, your heart is mine, my love I would walk a hundred miles To see the morning in your eyes My heart is yours, your heart is mine, my love (my love) Oh, ooh, ooh, my love Oh, ooh, ooh, my love Oh, ooh, ooh, my love Oh, ooh, ooh, my love And one day we’ll miss those times When I held your heart and you held mine Think about what we’ll leave behind ‘Cause now it’s time to say goodbye So here’s to you, my love It’s written in the stars above (oh, my love) My heart is yours, your heart is mine, my love (oh yeah) I would walk a hundred miles To see the morning in your eyes My heart is yours, your heart is mine, my love Please consider donating to Oradell Animal Hospital or to Northshore Animal League. Both groups do superhuman work to protect animals and we wouldn’t have had Copper without them.
