Zero

Zero Gravity Corniowsky formerly known as Imark Freebird joined our family on March 21, 2021 the day before Ian’s 34th birthday and was our first pandemic dog and first Greyhound.

Prior to meeting Zero, I (Helen) read through the entire Greyhounds for Dummies book and did extensive research on adopting retired racers. The ride home was a bit dicey because we had Zero and Holly in the back seat of the Rav with a new crate, bed, and supplies in the trunk. We quickly pulled over to have Holly sit up front with us and have Zero in the back seat. The rest is history.

While we only spent 4 years, 6 months, and 5.5 days together, we certainly packed SO much into that time. Ian took you racing immediately, and had to rehab your thigh (poor buddy blew it out racing). We drove up to Maine with you and Holly that September and then ventured to Camden, SC to the Nationals Racing Meet in November where you won the Turtle award for slowest racer.

You joined us on vacations to the Poconoes and even to the Outer Banks twice. You were a great housemate to Holly and Lady and even took Lady’s slot on our last vacation to OBX in September. We’re so glad we got to enjoy one on one time with you. You were incredible in the car and so much fun on vacation.

Zero loved snuggling up on the couch until he was so hot he was panting. Eventually he had to drag himself away to drink water and cool off. Zero loved pizza bones (aka pizza crust) and could not get enough yogurt. He would say hi to anyone and be excited when you arrived to our house. Then immediately retire to laying down again.

Every extra day since you were diagnosed with Cancer 6 weeks ago has been a gift. We treasured our 41 bonus days with you.

Yesterday on Wednesday 10/22 we savored one last walk through Freedom Barks. Our plan was only to walk the first field since you weren’t feeling good and running a fever. Instead, you lead the way, Zero. We walked through the woods and right up into the water (a favorite activity). It was the hardest walk we’ve ever had to do and we soaked in one last adventure. It was such a beautifully crisp fall day, a perfect day to say goodbye if ever there was one.

Zero, you truly honored your namesake yesterday and become Imark Freebird. You are now, again, free. Free of pain, suffering, and free to chase as many bunnies and squirrels as you want in Heaven.

Mom & Dad love you more than words can describe, and your absence will be with us forever. I’m still looking for you at my feet in my office, on your spot of the big couch, on the new patio couch that became your favorite outdoor spot. When we come home to no bark, howl, or alert ears greeting us saying “I missed you! Where have you been?”

We will see you on the other side boyfriend. Zero Gravity – Thank you for being the second member of the Snack Pack, for being the gentlest giant and house horse, and for a wonderful adventure Mister Boy. We love you!
